Anitra Jay

Anitra Jay is an acoustic soul singer-songwriter based in Eureka Springs, AR. Her whimsically soulful all-caution-to-the-wind interpretation of music, invites you to a space you’ll never want to leave. Born and raised in New Orleans, Anitra's vocals highlight her roots in Jazz, Soul, and Gospel.  With a musical style often compared to India.Arie and Tracy Chapman, Anitra Jay offers a sweet down-to-earth blend of soul and poetry with modern sensibilities.  Her personality and expert improvisational skills set her performances square between the raw edge of improv comedy and sultry-soaked soul.  She effortlessly combines soul-catching melodies with tales of real-life experiences wrought with motivational messages that leave the listener entertained, inspired, and ready to take on the world. Living life in true artist form, she and her husband built a tiny house and were featured on HGTV's Tiny House Hunters!

  • A Tour of Black Voices

Students and faculty will experience a unique experience, exploring the impact of African-descended artists and poets who made significant contributions to American music, from jazz and gospel to rock, R&B, and blues.

Beginning with the era of American slavery and continuing through the invention of rock and blues, Anitra will demonstrate how the music we enjoy today is deeply rooted in this rich history. Through a timeline of key moments, she will offer engaging discussions, captivating performances, and fascinating facts about each historical figure.

By the program's end, audience members will not only gain a deeper understanding of African American history in music and poetry, but they'll also enjoy an unforgettable concert experience.

  • Worship and Art: A Faith-Based Curriculum Seminar for Students

Topics will be discussed through Anitra's personal testimonies, scripture study, and interactive role-playing...

  • Living out your passion
  • Learning to persevere in the face of hardships
  • Sharing your God-given talents to make an impact
  • Thriving as a Christ-follower in a secular work environment
  • This seminar works really well with an added music portion for a memorable show-and-teach dynamic.

Anitra is also comfortable with requests for a specific focus or biblical passages related to the topics listed above.

  • Seminars are one hour, yet could be extended at special request.
  • Can be done in a classroom setting or a worship sanctuary.
  • A one-of-a-kind edifying experience

Anitra’ presentation was great, the music was great the storytelling was great and yes, the students were tuned in and engaged. She arrived early and was able to get setup with no problem. Very pleasant and easy to work with. No complaints from us, as we will look forward to having her back on campus again next year. - LeAnn Alexander, Dean of Students, East Mississippi Community College, Mayhew, MS

Things with Anitra Jay went extremely well yesterday, minus a tech issue on my end. Anitra was lovely, and we were able to get her set up easily. We were able to connect before the show, and she did arrive on time. The students really enjoyed her performance and asked for an encore. There were no problems or concerns at all. She was a pleasure to work with and was patient while I troubleshot the tech issue. I am glad we were able to work together!  - Emily VanKirk, M.Ed | Assistant Director, University of North Texas at Dallas, Dallas, TX

I just wanted to thank you for your help in coordinating the Anitra Jay event here at Monmouth and for putting her on our radar! Karen and I both thought it was such an excellent performance, and it's encouraged us to use more spaces on campus and have more live performers post-Covid.  - Cullen Marshall, Coordinator for Campus Events and Student Engagement, Monmouth College, Monmouth, IL

Our time with Anitra was wonderful. She arrived early on Friday.  I think she really enjoyed being able to speak and to sing in Connections. She talked about purpose and did her original music in Connections. The students enjoyed hearing from her. She was genuine and her words were timely.  Louisa Monroe, Associate Minister, Buies Creek, NC Campbell University

Anitra Jay performance for our Welcome Back Event was again, very positive and extremely well received by the students.  I am sure we will ask her back again next year. She is so easy to work with and so flexible and accommodating for our campus.  She always stays late, taking the time to speak with the students.  Thanks again Wally, we always enjoy working with you.  Michael Deen, Dean of Students, Austin College, Sherman, TX
