Students and faculty will experience a unique experience, exploring the impact of African-descended artists and poets who made significant contributions to American music, from jazz and gospel to rock, R&B, and blues.
Beginning with the era of American slavery and continuing through the invention of rock and blues, Anitra will demonstrate how the music we enjoy today is deeply rooted in this rich history. Through a timeline of key moments, she will offer engaging discussions, captivating performances, and fascinating facts about each historical figure.
By the program's end, audience members will not only gain a deeper understanding of African American history in music and poetry, but they'll also enjoy an unforgettable concert experience.

Things with Anitra Jay went extremely well yesterday, minus a tech issue on my end. Anitra was lovely, and we were able to get her set up easily. We were able to connect before the show, and she did arrive on time. The students really enjoyed her performance and asked for an encore. There were no problems or concerns at all. She was a pleasure to work with and was patient while I troubleshot the tech issue. I am glad we were able to work together! - Emily VanKirk, M.Ed | Assistant Director, University of North Texas at Dallas, Dallas, TX

Our time with Anitra was wonderful. She arrived early on Friday. I think she really enjoyed being able to speak and to sing in Connections. She talked about purpose and did her original music in Connections. The students enjoyed hearing from her. She was genuine and her words were timely.
